Business Description
The Elk Bend Quick Response Unit is an all volunteer Emergency Medical Response Unit serving the Elk Bend and surrounding area. All funding is from donations and grants. The QRU is a Basic Life Support unit consisting of EMT Basics and EMRs.
The Elk Bend QRU is locsted 22 miles south Of Salmon Idaho, along the Salmon River snd HWY 93 in Eastern Idaho. Elk Bend is a community of approximately 300 residents. The QRU is a non transport unit, the responding Ambulances are located 22 miles north, in Salmon, ID, and 37 miles south in Challis ID. Elk Bend is located over 150 miles from any city of over 5000 people. Do not attempt to locate Elk Bend on a map, as we are not on one,. The closest location you would find is Ellis, ID, 17 miles south of the Elk Bend Community. Our service area extends from the 45th parallel north, to slightly above Ellis, and can be called out to assist in areas extending further due to several Mutual Aid Agreements with surrounding agencies.
The Members of the Elk Bend QRU are all tested through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, undergo a Criminal Background Check and complete 80-120 hours of class time depending on the level of certification before being able to serve as part of the organization. The members also are required to complete continuing education through conferences, training in other agencies and monthly in house training. The continuing improvement of the skill level makes this unit one of the most recognized in the state.
The Elk Bed QRU is not funded by your tax dollars! Funding for the unit is not shared with the local fire department. Funding is attained through donations, raffles and occasional grant opportunities. The support you show through donations, attending our annual Donation Breakfast, and buying raffle tickets is our source for equipment, supplies and training.
